Ah, Kanye West. He and Taylor Swift have quite a history of unpleasant encounters. At the 2009 VMA’S, West got a little too drunk during the show, and when Taylor Swift won an award for “Best Female Video”, West decided to intervene. He hopped on stage in the middle of Swift receiving her award, and in front of the entire world, declared that Beyoncé should’ve won the award.
A few years went by, before they both decided to patch things up and move on from the incident. All seemed well, until 2016 rolled around.
Back in 2016, Kanye West released a single, titled “Famous”. In the song, there’s a particular section, where he sings, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.”
There was a lot of controversy surrounding that, because while Kanye West said that he consulted with Taylor and got her approval for the entirety of the song, Taylor later came out and denied it.
This prompted his wife, Kim Kardashian-West to leak the audio on Snapchat of the phone call between him and Taylor.
While it was true that Swift had been told about the above mentioned lyric, she came out with a statement of her own. “Where is the vídeo Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that b*tch’ in his song? It doesn’t exist because it never happened”, she wrote.
By then, it was unfortunately too late for Swift, because people were coming at her like daggers and calling her a “snake”. The #TaylorSwiftisoverparty was trending on Twitter, and she had lost a lot of credibility.
Since then, there’s been a feud between Swift and the West pair, but they’ve managed to go their separate ways and continue focusing on their own lives.
That was, until yesterday. Yesterday, the full video of the phone called was leaked onto YouTube, by user Dejui Eiraqius.
The video was completely unedited, and showed no mention of Kanye asking her about the “b*tch line”. The unedited version also showed that West was stuttering and hesitating to ask her about the “sex” line.
Swift did say “I need time to process this”, and towards the end, she stated that she wouldn’t feel comfortable doing as Kanye had requested, and releasing the song on social media, to her millions of followers. She backed that statement up by saying that people are always looking to target her for a scandal, and that if she promoted the song, it would give haters the perfect excuse to attack her.
In conclusion, while Swift was aware of the “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex” line, the snapchat video made it seem like she was thrilled and honored to be mentioned in the song. Yet, in the unedited version, Swift appeared visibly uncomfortable.
The hashtags, “#KanyeWestIsOverParty”, “#KimKardashianIsOverParty” and “#TaylorSwiftToldTheTruth” were trending all over Twitter yesterday. Swifties are also flooding Kardashian-West’s Twitter profile with rat emojis, in the same way that people were flooding Swift’s Instagram with snake emojis back in 2016.
Allegedly, Kardashian-West is deleting a lot of hate comments from her Instagram profile, because one user posted this comment that currently has over one thousand likes.
Kim, Kanye, and Taylor have yet to respond to the unedited video release. However, when/if they do respond, stay tuned for updates on this page.
