Last night, Taylor Swift’s “City of Lover Concert” special aired on ABC. This concert was recorded back in September of 2019, at the L’Olympia Theater in Paris.
The theater was packed with fans from 37 countries around the world. While the venue was filled with an audience, this was one concert where tickets weren’t available for purchase. The people in the audience had to work hard to win different Taylor Swift-themed contests, in order to receive a ticket to the show.
Swift opened the show with her 2019 smash hit, “ME!”. She sang with passion, and danced like she owned the stage.
Once the song ended, Swift greeted her fans in the crowd. She gushed about how grateful she was for them, and stated that the concert was equivalent to an album release party.
Swift prefaced every song on her setlist with a story. Back in July of 2015, I went to Swift’s 1989 concert at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. One of the things that I loved about her was that each song had a purpose, and every lyric meant something to not only the singer, but also to her fans.
Swift has written stories about falling in love, as well as getting her heart broken, and quite often, she faces criticism for writing songs about romance. However, she’s simply writing the truth. Everyone has or will go through some type of heart break in their life, and music is an incredible way to cope with emotions.
Swift writes lyrics in an artistic, yet creative way, and it tends to resonate with a lot of people in similar situations.
She surprised her fans by playing an acoustic set of songs that she had never performed live before.
Swift’s concert setlist is as follows:
- “Death By A Thousand Cuts”
- “Cornelia Street”
- “The Man”
- “You Need To Calm Down”
Before performing “You Need To Calm Down”, a song towards homophobic people, Swift had a message to preface. “Love is, in my opinion, equality. And anyone who disagrees with that, in my opinion, needs to calm down”.
Swift ended the concert special by thanking her audience once again for traveling to be there with her for such a special night.
If you missed the “Taylor Swift City of Lover Concert” and would like to watch it, the one hour special event will be available on Hulu and Disney+ starting today.
