On July 9, 2020, 6-year-old Bridger Walker saved his baby sister from getting attacked by an aggressive dog.
Three days ago, Bridger’s aunt (Nicole Walker) uploaded the full details of the incident onto her Instagram profile.
According to Nicole’s statement, Bridger was spending some time at a friend’s house. Accompanying the two, was Bridger’s 4-year-old sister. Upon entering their friend’s backyard, there were two dogs. Bridger’s friend introduced one as the “nice” dog, and just as she was introducing her other dog as the “mean” one, it ran towards Bridger’s younger sister.
She was frightened, but Bridger stood in front of her, and refused to let the dog attack her. Unfortunately, instead of backing down and running away, the dog latched onto Bridger’s cheek.
According to his family, Bridger had to endure over 2 hours worth of facial reconstruction surgery, and over 90 stitches. The medical staff told the Walker family that Bridger was one of their bravest patients.
While still in the hospital, Bridger’s father had asked him why he felt the need to stand in front of his little sister. That’s when Bridger admitted the following: “If someone should die, I thought it should be me”.
Nicole Walker has stated that Bridger’s wounds are healing more and more each day, and that his personality is still shining brightly.
Luckily, Bridger’s selfless act did not go unnoticed. Some of Bridger’s favorite celebrities and Marvel superheroes recorded personalized, special messages, for the 6-year-old hero.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Robbie Amell, Mark Ruffalo, Zachary Levi, and more celebrities have also shown their outpour of love and support towards Bridger.
The Walker family would also like the public to know that they are not in need of financial assistance for Bridger’s medical bills. Rather, they would like people to donate to the following organizations: Mission 22, Operation Underground Railroad, and The Wounded Warrior Project.
In terms of the dog owner and their family, the Walker family has released the following statement:
“We also humbly request that you keep the dog’s owners in your prayers and forego any superficial judgement — because we love them”.
They also admitted that the dog’s owners have decided to put their 1-year-old German Shepherd rescue mix to sleep, following the incident.
Bridger truly is a real life superhero, and we’re so glad to hear that he’s healing quickly. Our positive thoughts go out to his family at this time.
