Ten years ago, One Direction was selected as a boyband, by X Factor judge, Simon Cowell. Although they didn’t win, the group went on to become one of the most successful boybands of the decade.
Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik were instant teen heartthrobs. One Direction released their first album, Up All Night in 2011, and went on a total of four sold-out world tours.
Their final album as a whole was Four. In the middle of their On The Road Again tour, Zayn Malik announced his departure from the group.
While Malik had decided to focus on a solo career, Styles, Tomlinson, Payne, and Horan continued to make music as a foursome.
Their last album release was Made In The A.M. in November of 2015. Unfortunately, in 2016, the four remaining One Direction members announced their hiatus from the group.
Horan, Styles, Tomlinson and Payne (similarly to Malik) had all decided to take a break, to focus on their solo careers.
It’s been four years since the announcement of their hiatus, and ten years since One Direction began its course.
Fans were ecstatic about the ten year anniversary, as some were hoping for a virtual reunion amongst the members.
However, instead, there will be a One Direction website launch. According to the NY Post, the website will launch later today, and will include: “a timeline of the group’s history, from their first audition to the beginning of their hiatus. It will also serve as a one-stop-shop archive for One Direction’s music videos, TV performances and behind-the-scenes content.”
The iHeartRadioCA YouTube channel has also released a One Direction themed video. The video premiered at midnight, and included unseen footage from each tour that the band embarked on.
However, because the video was only about a minute and a half long, fans weren’t having it.
The hashtag, “iheartisoverparty” is currently trending on Twitter.
No reunion announcements have officially been made/confirmed, but fans are still assuming that plans for a reunion will happen by the end of the day.
Although the official One Direction Instagram page posted their excitement yesterday, we’ll have to wait and see if any of the members acknowledge their ten-year anniversary.
